For Lovers of Gyoza and Pot Stickers
This is an Asian Fusion preparation that works well for people who enjoy the taste of Asia meat packets like Pot Stickers or Gyoza. Eating one of these burgers is like eating an enormous Gyoza, especially when served on a plain wheat bun. These burgers are quickly and easily made and more subtle in flavor than the majority of Western hamburgers or other burger-type meat patties.
Pork Burgers Pot-Sticker Style
1½ pounds ground Pork
2tablespoons finely minced fresh Ginger Root
2 tablespoons Green Onions, finely chopped, green and white parts
2 teaspoons Soy Sauce
2 teaspoons Asian Sesame Oil
1 teaspoon Sugar
2 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce
3 tablespoons Corn Starch or Arrowroot Flour
2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil for frying
In a large bowl, combine he Pork, Ginger, Soy Sauce, Green Onions, Sugar, Sesame Oil and the Egg and mix to combine well.
Shape into 6 burger patties, about ¾ inch thick.
Heat a skillet, preferably a heavy cast-iron pan, and when the pan is hot, put in the oil and heat it to hot. When the oil is hot, slide the patties into the pan and grill 5 or 6 minutes on the first side. Then turn and grill another 5 or 6 minutes on the second side until the patty is well-cooked and serve, either with a plain bun or just by itself.
