Five Spice Salt can be used as a table Salt.  It’s one of those modified or enhanced Salts that are sometimes used by Chinese at the table.  It also features in some dishes like Five Spice Spareribs.  Easy o make and will keep a long imd in a sealed jar.

Five Spice Powder

Five Spices Powder aka Wu Xiang Fen, a Chinese Spice Medley

5 tablespoons Salt, preferably Sea Salt
1 tablespoon Five Spice Powder


Heat a dry wok until it is hot but not smoking.

Add the Salt and heat it, stirring, until it turns light brown.  This should take about five minutes.  Remove from fire andl let cool about five minutes.

Next add the Five Spice Powder  and mix together.

When completely cool, bottle in a glass bottle with a screw top.  This will keep for weeks on the shelf and can be used to finish Five Spice Spareribs, a separate recipe in this Collection.
